The soldiers of the Italian contingent of the Sector West of UNIFIL have found in their area of responsibility an artillery projectile from 155 millimeters without fuse, a war remnant dating back to the 2006 war.

The intervention team on site for the safety of the area was the bomb squad (EOD / IEDD - Explosive Ordnance Disposal / Improvised Explosive Device Disposal) of the 3 ° Genio Guastatori regiment, framed in the Combat Service Battalion of the Sector West of UNIFIL.

Although more than ten years have passed since the so-called "summer war" between Israel and Hezbollah militias, the problem linked to the discovery of unexploded ordnance is still current, especially in the rainy season.

The Italian military has always sensitized the local population and especially the children on this danger by inviting them to report its presence.

The current mission in Lebanon is to lead the "Pozzuolo del Friuli" cavalry brigade under the orders of General Ugo Cillo.
