Eleven asphalt and maintenance projects on the roads of some villages in southern Lebanon were carried out and inaugurated in these days by the military of the Italian contingent of UNIFIL, the multinational UN interposition force deployed on the border with Israel.

The interventions concerned the reconstruction of the road surface of numerous main and secondary roads, the restoration and construction of sidewalks, the safety of the roadways through the construction of retaining walls.

The design and execution of the works was followed by the specialists of civil-military cooperation of the Sector West in coordination with local authorities.

The jobs were assigned based on the criterion of their actual sustainability to specialized local companies with positive economic repercussions for the territory.

The projects, financed with national funds for an amount exceeding three hundred thousand euros, made it possible to improve road safety, the decor of the most inhabited urban centers and, in some cases, to shorten the distances between neighboring villages, allowing citizens to reach more quickly the chosen destination.

Satisfaction was expressed by the political, religious and military authorities of southern Lebanon with regard to the Italian military and the commander of the Sector West who attended the inauguration ceremonies of the projects.

This type of initiative is part of the activities to assist the population that the "blue helmets" of the Italian contingent, currently based on the "Sassari" brigade, carry out in full compliance with the 1701 resolution of the UN Security Council.
