Lebanon: Italian blue helmets enhance the historical-cultural heritage

This morning, the blue helmets of the Military Civil Cooperation (CIMIC) cell of the Italian Contingent, of the Sector West (SW) Command of Unifil, have completed a renovation and rebuilding project of the pavement of two squares in front of the castle of Shama and the construction of a staircase for access to the archaeological site.

The delivery took place in the presence of the Italian contingent commander on a "Pinerolo" Brigade, Brigadier General Stefano Del Col, the first secretary of the Embassy of Italy in Lebanon, Federica Mazzotta, the Mayor of Shama, several civil authorities , military and religious.

The interventions on the archaeological site will continue with the project called "Conservation of the Shama Castle in the south of Lebanon", financed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Italian) and International Cooperation (MAECI) and carried out in collaboration with the Council for Reconstruction and Development Lebanese (CDR), with the aim of restoring and developing for tourism some sites and works to be preserved and enhanced for the Lebanese historical and cultural heritage.
