"A gesture of noble social gratuitousness, expression of generous and spontaneous solidarity".
Mouzaiyan Siklawi Ajami, president of the Red Cross of Tire, said this at the end of an important blood donation carried out by the "blue helmets" of the Italian contingent of UNIFIL in favor of the Lebanese population.

A similar initiative was held in the days of Ramadan, the ninth lunar month of the Islamic calendar dedicated to prayer and fasting, during which donations had suffered a setback, causing a lack of blood and blood products at the health facilities. locals.

"A gesture particularly appreciated by the staff of the association and by the local authorities," said Colonel Enrico Rosa, first among the donors and commander of Italbatt, the unit for maneuvering the Italian contingent on the basis of 151 ° "Sassari" Infantry Regiment.
Colonel Rosa then underlined how the donation represents "one of the many expressions of proximity of the" Italian Blue Helmets "towards the inhabitants of the district of Tire".

Doctors and nurses of the Red Cross of Tire will soon be guests of the nearby base of Al Mansouri, where the Italian "peacekeepeers" will make other voluntary blood donations.

Assistance to the Lebanese people, together with monitoring of the cessation of hostilities and support for the Lebanese armed forces, is one of the tasks assigned to the Italian contingent of UNIFIL in compliance with the UN Security Council's 1701 resolution.
