Among the specialist units, the engineering structures play a fundamentally important role, equipped with particular professionalism, such as carpenters, sheet metal locksmiths, carpenters, plumbers, electricians, and operators of special vehicles which, in addition to ensuring maintenance interventions in favor of the contingent, facilitate the implementation of projects in favor of both the Lebanese Armed Forces and local communities, helping to create increasingly favorable operating conditions and to increase the level of acceptance and protection of the Forces.
Italy is leading the West Sector of UNIFIL, in command of the Joint Task Force Lebanon Sector West, with over 3600 peacekeepers from 17 of the 40 countries participating in the mission.
The Italian contribution exceeds 1.100 units, of the over 10.000 overall, whose backbone is provided by the parachute brigade thunderbolt, which integrates the effort of numerous other specialized components of our Armed Forces, whose capabilities ensure the complementarity and operational flexibility necessary to carry out the mission.
At the archaeological site of the city of Tire, renovation works were carried out on a room used for the exhibition of archaeological objects and for the projection of films relating to the history of the site.
Furthermore, works were carried out to renovate the Chawakeer training area of the 5th brigade of the LAF, with a view to supporting the development of the capacity of the Lebanese units, within the terms established by Resolution 1701.
Even at the command of the South Litani Sector di Tiro, maintenance work was carried out to increase the infrastructural capacity, with reference to the vehicle repair shop and the hydraulic system of the command building, supporting the increase in efficiency standards.
“The LAFs - emphasized the commander of the West Sector of UNIFIL, Brigadier General Roberto Vergori - they are a concrete reference of stability and bearers of values of integrity and commitment to the security of Lebanon. UNIFIL's activities are coordinated in their entirety with the LAF and carried out in the interest of the local population”.
The Italian contribution includes staff personnel within the UNIFIL command, assets of the Carabinieri and the helicopter component of the Army Aviation, part of a Task Force specialist, which ensures patrolling, surveillance, search, rescue and air transport activities for the entire Mission.
The activities carried out in the operational theater are conducted under the coordination and according to the directives given by the operational command of interforce forces (COVI), which is the Defense High Command, responsible for planning, coordinating and directing military operations, national and multinational joint exercises and related activities.
