After the honors given to those who died at home and abroad, during the brief but significant ceremony, the messages received from the President of the Republic and from the Minister of Defense were read. The commander of the contingent, Colonel Antonio Sgobba, has thus commented on the event: “Our armed forces, here represented by the men and women of the national contingent of the MNBG-W, are proud witnesses of this anniversary that honors the choice made by our predecessors 68 years ago. The memory of this event enriches and reinforces the desire to be Italian, the closeness to the values we represent and that we worthily transmit both at home and abroad ".
Then, with the delivery of the NATO commemorative medal, Colonel Sgobba sealed the commitment of Italian peacekeepers in their period of service in this area of the Balkans.
The primary purpose of the mission of the Italian contingent based in Pec, composed of 250 military based on 52 ° regiment "Turin", is to ensure, in adherence to the 1244 resolution of the United Nations Council, security, stability and freedom movement in the western part of Kosovo, contributing to the consolidation of peace and the process of civil growth.
