(To Army Majority State)
24/09/15

The greeting ceremony of the "Taurinense" alpine brigade took place today in Turin, at the "Monte Grappa" barracks, which, from next October, under the command of Brigadier General Franco Federici, will be employed in Lebanon as part of UNIFIL the international security and assistance mission operating under a mandate from the United Nations.

The "Taurinense" contingent will consist of units taken from the 9 Alpine Regiment of L'Aquila, from the Nizza Cavalleria Regiment (1 °) of Bellinzago Novarese, from the 32 ° Turin Engineers' Regiment, from the "Taurinense" Logistic Regiment of Rivoli integrated by other specialized units of the Italian Army. In Lebanon, alongside the Italian military, soldiers from other 12 Nations will operate.

In compliance with the resolutions of Security Council of the United Nations n. 425 of the 1978, n. 1701 of the 2006 and n. 1832 of the 2008, the tasks of UNIFIL are to assist the Lebanese government to exercise its sovereignty over the territory and to guarantee the security of its borders, in particular the border crossings with the State of Israel.

UNIFIL also aims to support the Lebanese armed forces in security operations and stabilization of the area, in order to prevent a return to hostilities and create the conditions for lasting peace.

Employment in Lebanon will also constitute the "operational baptism" of the newly established Italian-French Brigade command which, conceived by the two countries in the 2009 as a tool for a new European security strategy, has obtained the certification of full operational capacity in the February of this year, after an intense training and standardization process.

At the ceremony, which featured the banner of the Nice Cavalry (1 °) and the war flag of the "Taurinense" logistic regiment, numerous civil, religious and military authorities attended, including General Alberto Primicerj, commander of the terrestrial operational forces and General Federico Bonato, commander of the Alpine troops.
