Today, 08 October, Spanish rear-admiral Alfonso Gomez Fernandez de Cordoba sold the command of EU Naval Force (EUNAVFOR) Somalia - operation Atalanta to the Italian rear admiral Stefano Barbieri.
Admiral Barbieri will command the European task force deployed in the Somali basin and the Gulf of Aden by the modern frigate Carabiniere.
Rear Admiral Barbieri has already commanded the Libeccio ship throughout his career and more recently he was also the commander of the aircraft carrier unit. Cavour.
