The course has just ended with the final ceremony for the presentation of certificates of participation Snow and Avalanche Forecast National Service organized by the Italian Bilateral Military Mission in Lebanon (MIBIL) in favor of personnel belonging to the mountain troops of the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF).

In addition to the Lebanese military authorities, the event was attended by the first councilor of the Italian embassy in Lebanon, Dr. Simona de Martino, and the commander of the Mission, Colonel Stefano Giribono.

The course Snow and Avalanche Forecast National Service of the duration of 2 weeks was conducted by a Mobile Training Team coming from the Alpine Training Center of Aosta, thus allowing the formation of a total of 25 students among non-commissioned officers and troopers belonging to units of the Lebanese army operating in the mountainous areas of the Land of the Cedars, as the Ranger Regiment, Military Mountain School and intervention regiments. The course provided students with the ability to collect and analyze data on the high-mountain meteorological situation in order to assess and prevent avalanche risk during the conduct of military operations. Therefore, didactic-training activities were developed concerning the study of the snowpack, with empirical tests on the stability of the same, in order to be able to issue a bulletin concerning the risk of avalanches and suggestions for movement in a given area.

The outcome of the training activities in favor of the Lebanese military was extremely satisfactory, consolidating the marked interest of the Lebanese authorities in the collaboration with the Italian Armed Forces and fully confirming the validity of the mission and the training project.

MIBIL, operating in Lebanon since 2015, organizes, conducts and coordinates training and training activities in favor of the Lebanese Armed Forces, framing itself in the broader international context that aims to support the institutions of the Middle Eastern nation in order to increase their overall capacity.
