MISIN sets up two operating theaters at Niamey Children's Hospital

​At the "Issaka Gazoby" children's hospital in Niamey, the commander of the Italian Support Mission in Niger (MISIN), Major General Liberato Amadio, in the presence of the Deputy Secretary General of the Ministry of Public Health, Population and Social Affairs of Niger, Mr. Hassan Adamou Sabo, of the Italian ambassador in Niger, if Emilia Gatto, of the general director of the Maternitè “Issaka Gazoby”, prof. Nayama Madi and Mr. Roberto Faccani representing theItalian Institute of Research, Studies, Information and Defence (ISTRID), presided over the donation of medical equipment and sanitary material aimed at increasing the pediatric and surgical assistance capacity of the Nigerian hospital.

This medical-specialist equipment, in the framework of a joint civil-military cooperation activity of MISIN with ISTRID, will guarantee better support to pregnant women and their unborn children.

With the electronic equipment for diagnostics, medical devices, anesthesia and resuscitation units, beds for the delivery room and scialytic lamps donated to the Maternitè "Issaka Gazoby", two new operating theaters were set up.

The Director General of the Hospital expressed deep gratitude to both the MISIN contingent and Mr. Faccani for the closeness and solidarity shown, emphasizing how the Italian Government, the expression of a people linked to the Nigerian one by feelings of fraternal friendship, is particularly attentive to supporting public health by responding to the real needs of the local community.

General Amadio, in his speech, addressed a particular applause to the Italian military personnel who made it possible to finalize the donation, underlining their strong motivation to work and reaffirming the importance and effectiveness of the civil-military cooperation that MISIN is developing in Niger, with the firm will to finance projects that are more oriented towards satisfying the real needs of the local population and institutions.

The Italian military contingent in Niger, as also appreciated and recognized by Ambassador Gatto during her speech, stands out for the sensitivity it punctually places in support activities also in the health sector, through the characteristic empathic approach with which it demonstrates closeness to institutions and the needs of the Nigerien people in defense of human and civil values.

The activities carried out in the Operative Theater are conducted under the coordination and according to the directives given by the operational command of interforce forces (COVI), which is the defense high command responsible for planning, coordinating and directing military operations, national and multinational joint exercises and related activities.
