MIBIL trains the Lebanese armed forces in fighting marine pollution and managing accidents

With the ceremony for the delivery of the certificates and badges of the course, at the Naval Base in Beirut, the training cycle organized in favor of officers and non-commissioned officers of the Lebanese Navy in order to spread the knowledge of the techniques and procedures to contrast the marine pollution, and to provide the skills and technical skills to deal with the spill of hydrocarbons or other harmful substances into the sea.

The marine anti-pollution course saw, for the first time, the involvement of a team of Navy instructors (2 officers and 2 non-commissioned officers) made up of personnel from the Command of Patrol Forces for Coast Guard and Defense (COMFORPAT) belonging to the first patrol squadron and to the naval units it employs.

In the three weeks of training activity, characterized by the alternation of theoretical and practical lessons, carried out in the waters of the Military port, in order to make the visitors acquire complete familiarity with the systems used in anti-pollution operations, the instructors illustrated the traditional systems of contrasting marine pollution and their technological evolution, the anti-pollution methods most used by the Marines up to, in the last week, the planning, conduct and evaluation of a complex anti-pollution exercise in the port area, using all the means and equipment supplied to the Lebanese Navy.

Among the authorities present at the ceremony of awarding the certificates were the Italian deputy ambassador to Lebanon, Dr. Simona De Martino, the military attaché of the Italian Embassy, ​​Colonel Massimiliano Sforza, the commander of the Italian Bilateral Military Mission (MIBIL), Colonel Stefano Giribono and some Lebanese military authorities.

MIBIL, operating in Lebanon since 2015, organizes, conducts and coordinates training and training activities in favor of the Lebanese armed forces, framing itself in the broader international context that aims to support the institutions of the Middle Eastern nation in order to increase their overall capabilities.
