Last Saturday, the Euro frigate of the Navy left from the Naval Base of Taranto, to join the Second NATO Permanent Naval Group (Standing NATO Maritime Group 2 - SNMG2), with which it will take part in Operation Active Endeavor.
The tasks assigned to the naval units are presence and monitoring, control of merchant traffic and conduct of mine countermeasures and in general to guarantee security for navigation in the Mediterranean.
Nave Euro, under the command of frigate captain Cristian Nardone, will contribute to maintaining a credible presence together with the other Mediterranean units, able to cope and effectively combat international terrorism, representing a valid instrument of security, defense and protection for the Alliance .
The operation, which will be attended by Marines from various NATO countries including Canada, the United States, Spain and Germany, will also represent an opportunity to share operational procedures and at the same time acquire specific competences for the fight against terrorism and safety of the seas.
