The "Aosta" Brigade in Afghanistan

(To Army Majority State)
09/09/15

The transfer of the staff of the mechanized "Aosta" Brigade to Herat in Afghanistan is ending. Yesterday the war flag of the 5 ° "Aosta" infantry regiment left Messina, accompanied by the commander of the Brigade and the Regiment commander, after also receiving the greeting of the prefect of Messina, dr. Stefano Trotta, and of the main provincial and municipal authorities.
The Aosta, commanded by General Mauro D'Ubaldi, replaces the Julia Brigade at the head of the Train Advise Assist Command West, the multinational and command-led NATO-led command operating in the West of Afghanistan as part of the Resolute Support mission.

The activity of the Italian military is no longer connected to direct tasks of participation in operations but is expressed through training, consultancy and assistance activities carried out by teams of specialists in favor of the top management of the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF).

For the "Aosta" Brigade it is a return to Afghanistan where, in the 2013, it operated within the ISAF mission (International Security Assistance Force), ended the 31 December 2014.
