The Italian trainers of the Counter - IED (Improvised Explosive Device) team have recently completed the 2 training course in favor of regional guard brigade, a military unit of Kurdish security forces committed to the front line in the fight against Daesh, on the procedures and techniques to counter the threat of improvised explosive devices.

At the end of the intense three-week cycle, 24 were formed peshmerga research and remediation operators. In particular, the training focused on learning two areas of application of the C-IED procedures: Defeat and Detect.

The course Defeat allows all students to understand the explosive devices clearance activity in general, providing individual operators with the ability to carry out the threat assessment and the ability to carry out the procedures for securing the device.

The course Detect aims to specialize the operators in the search for explosive devices: specifically the trained teams operate at the team level, and through the equipment supplied they study the characteristics of the various terrains, so as to identify potential threats of ordnance on each type of route, area or building.

At the end of the training process the two types of operators are trained to work together, integrating and optimizing the skills acquired.

The work of the Italian trainers of the C-IED team expands the range of national training offers made available to the Kurdish security forces, positioning the Italian armed forces among the coalition countries that offer the largest number of specialized courses. Up to now 40 operators have been trained and trained by the trainers of the “Prima Parthica” operation in the C-IED.
