This afternoon, at the base "Villaggio Italia", the 4 wagon regiment of Persano (SA) has replaced the 132 wagon regiment of Cordenons (PN) in the guide of the Multinational Battle Group West (MNBG-W), the Italian-led multinational unit responsible for the western sector of Kosovo.
The 132 regiment together with the staff of the 7 transmissions regiment of Sacile (PN), will thus return to Friuli after six months of mission.
The ceremony of rotation between Colonel Ciro Forte, outgoing commander, and the Alessandro Alessandro Sarcià parigrado took place in the presence of division general Guglielmo Luigi Miglietta, commander of the Kosovo Force (KFOR), of the ambassador for Italy in Kosovo Andreas Ferrarese , and of the divisional admiral Giovanni Gumiero, chief of staff of the Interoperable Summit Operations Command (COI), as well as numerous civil and military authorities convened for the occasion.
Words of appreciation for the work carried out during the mission period were expressed to the military by both the commander of KFOR and col. Strong. "Strong, intelligent, professional and the only true architects of the success achieved by the Unit", so the outgoing commander defined the military returning home.
During the mission the Cordenons tankers contributed to the maintenance of a stable and secure environment and freedom of movement in Kosovo, guaranteeing in particular the safeguard and protection of the Visoki Decani monastery, a Serbian-Orthodox place of worship which since 2004 is part of the cultural heritage protected by UNESCO.
There are also numerous civil-military cooperation activities (CIMIC) carried out in full impartiality and in the deepest respect for cultures, ethnic groups and religious beliefs.
The unit, in addition to numerous donations of material to local organizations, has completed several restructuring projects aimed at restoring and improving roads and hygienic / sanitary conditions in schools.
Also important is the contribution to the development of institutions operating in the field of assistance and assistance to citizens, such as the Fire Brigade and the Red Cross.
Persano tank drivers will operate at Multinational Battle Group West in a multinational team along with the Slovenian, Austrian and Moldovan military.
The 4 ° tank regiment, which in recent years has contributed with various operations to operations outside the area including Iraq, Lebanon and Afghanistan, returns to Kosovo after about 15 years. In fact in the 2001 the chariot regiment held the leadership of the "Sauro" Task Force, in Deans, within the "Joint Guardian" Operation.
