Kosovo, 25 and 26 June 2016. Two days of sport and leisure, dedicated to disabled children and their families to be together and forget the cultural and ethnic barriers that divide Kosovo. The initiative, which took place at the headquarters of the Kosovo Police Academy, was organized by the local Paralympic Committee and implemented thanks to the synergy of several international actors present in Kosovo: the Kosovo Force (KFOR), a multinational mission of NATO, the OSCE, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, and other international and local organizations present in the area.

Many were the moments of aggregation during the event, with a common denominator: sport to overcome cultural misunderstandings and ethnic prejudices.

Besides 500 participants, coming from all parts of Kosovo. Albanians, Serbs and other ethnic minorities were represented by children who with a smile on their face and regardless of their disability and their ethnicity spent an unforgettable weekend aimed at pure sporting competition.

The young athletes met in different individual and team disciplines. Among the many activities included in the program, basketball, soccer, ping pong, chess and running meetings were held.

No ethnic or religious barrier has prevented the development of this consolidated appointment, of high social value, which has now been carried out for several years by the Paralympic Committee of Kosovo.

Soldiers representing 31 Nations that make up the Kosovo Force, under the command of the Italian General Guglielmo Luigi Miglietta, have actively contributed to the realization of the 2016 edition Paralympic games, through various charitable activities organized during the last months before the sporting event. In his speech, General Miglietta underlined the importance of sport as an element of social and cultural integration.

"Sport enriches our lives and gives us the strength to face difficulties, with commitment and dedication," said Generale Miglietta, "the Paralympic games are an opportunity to demonstrate what can be done together, with great energy without any difference ethnic, historical and religious ".

"This event is of great social importance along the path of normalization of Kosovo," concluded Generale Miglietta, "ever closer to the standards of a safe society and no longer threatened by ethnic conflicts."

KFOR operates in Kosovo from the 1999 and represents one of the most credible and impartial institutions in the region. Many civil-military cooperation projects have been carried out to support the entire population, such as blood donations in favor of the Pristina transfusion center, road restructuring, modernization of school and hospital buildings, by donation of specific teaching and health materials.

At the conclusion of the sporting event, the political authorities of Kosovo and the representatives of the international community expressed unanimous appreciation for the excellent success of this edition of the mini Paralympic games. A special thanks was given to Kosovo Force for its commitment in organizing all the activities and above all for the fundamental role played by NATO's multinational force for the maintenance of peace and stability in Kosovo.
