Kosovo: "Silver Saber" exercise for the Multinational Battle Group West

Il Multinational Battle Group West, with an Italian guide, has completed an intense training carried out in recent days with the participation in the complex “Silver Saber” exercise which involved all the operational structures of KFOR. In particular, the maneuvering units of the MNBG-W have developed crowd control and public order management procedures in the event of riots or concentration of hostile masses in the vicinity of a structure (Field Office) managed by personnel of the Liaison Monitoring Team (LMT), one of the link and monitoring cores operating in the municipal territories of Kosovo under the command of Joint Regional Detachments (JRDs).

The multinational maneuvering battalion, based on the 3rd mountain artillery regiment of the "Julia" alpine brigade, has deployed a logistic structure with field kitchen and ambulance and the maneuvering units composed of Austrian, Italian and Italian soldiers in the training area of ​​Camp Vrelo. Moldovans.

The training objective was to test the rapid reaction capacity of the MNBG-W forces, third responder of the response to a situation of progressive escalation of violence caused by the approach of a hostile crowd in the vicinity of a building. sensitive (Field Office) occupied by KFOR personnel.

In the continuation of the exercise the maneuvering units in anti-riot setup applied the technical-tactical procedures aimed at controlling the event, to reject the accumulation of a hostile crowd intent on entering the building and evacuating the personnel LMT in a safe area.

The exercise represents an important training occasion aimed at maintaining a complete operational capacity, improving the level of interoperability between the various multinational actors and consolidating the standardization of technical-tactical procedures, as well as being part of the activities authorized by the UN Security Council resolution 1244 which provides for guaranteeing the security of the Decane Monastery, to maintain freedom of movement and to prevent recourse to violence and to develop projects of Civil and Military Cooperation aimed at supporting the growth process economic development thanks to the development of local institutions. 

Il Multinational Battle Group - West (MNBG-W) is made up of about 650 soldiers from 4 nations (Austria, Italy, Moldova and Slovenia).
