KOSOVO: change at the top of KFOR

It took place this morning in Camp "Film City" (Pristina), in the presence of the president of Kosovo, Atifete Jahjaga, the commander of the Allied Joint Force Commmand (JFC) of Naples, admiral Mark E. Ferguson III and the head of state major of the defense, Admiral Luigi Binelli Mantelli, the change ceremony of the commander of the NATO multinational mission KFOR.

The general of division Salvatore Farina, at the end of his annual term, was alternated by the general of division Francesco Paolo Figliuolo.

"KFOR makes a decisive contribution to the security and progress of Kosovo," said President Atifete Jahjaga in expressing gratitude and thanks to General Farina for the important results achieved during his tenure at the command of KFOR. 

The chief of state of defense, in his speech, underlined the importance of the KFOR mission, once again assigned to the Italian leadership, in an area like the Balkan one which today is a crossroads of the crises that surround Europe to the south and east

"Kfor has reduced 10 times since 1999 and security is now 10 times better than then", underlined General Farina, "our efforts have been characterized by a holistic and global approach, working in synergy with the Kosovo institutions. at central and local level, with international organizations, with the Kosovo police and the Kosovo Security Foce as well as with the military leaders of neighboring countries ”.

As evidence of the strong bond of collaboration and closeness between the political, military and religious authorities of Kosovo and KFOR, Kosovo Prime Minister Ashim Thaci, the heads of the armed forces of Albania, FYROM, were present at the ceremony, among others. Montenegro and Serbia, representatives of international organizations (UNMiK, EULEX, OSCE, EU), leaders of the Catholic, Islamic and Orthodox communities.

Among the guests were also the ambassadors of the "Quint" of France, Germany, Italy, United Kingdom and the United States.

The military representatives of the 31 nations that are part of KFOR, a representative of the Kosovo Security Force and the band of artillery commanders against the air were framed on the line-up of honor.
