Kosovo: aid for the construction of a road in Goradzevac

10/07/15

The Italian military contingent based on 132 ° Carri Regiment, of Cordenons (PN), framed in the Multinational Battle Group West by KFOR, donated the materials necessary for the restoration and securing of a road in Goradzevac, a village with Serbian majority Municipality of Pec / Peja.

The work aims to improve links between the agricultural area and the main road network, and was financed by CIMIC civil-military cooperation.

In addition to the commander of the Multinational Battle Group West, Colonel Ciro Forte and the mayor and deputy mayor of Pec / Peja, representatives of the two main ethnic communities of Kosovo, the commander of KFOR, Major General Francesco Paolo Figliuolo also took part in the donation ceremony .

Colonel Forte underlined the Italian commitment to the financing of the project, which is part of a broader program of activities that the Multinational Battle Group West will continue in the coming months. The work will allow greater mobility for the inhabitants of Goradzevac, facilitating access to adjacent agricultural areas, with a potential increase in production activities. It will also facilitate the action of the patrols of the Kosovo Police and of KFOR, committed daily to the maintenance of a stable and safe environment and freedom of movement throughout Kosovo.

In the margins of the ceremony, speaking with the journalists present, COMKFOR underlined how "today's activity is a testimony to the improved capacity for collaboration between the communities of Kosovo. KFOR - continued General Figliuolo - is always ready to support such initiatives to improve the living conditions of the population regardless of ethnic or religious affiliation ".

The project is particularly innovative as it provides for the restoration work to be carried out autonomously by the local community, with the idea of making the work more perceived as a patrimony of the whole village. For the Multinational Battle Group West, close cooperation with the inhabitants makes it possible to concentrate efforts only on the procurement of raw materials, conserving valuable resources to be used in future for other initiatives in favor of local populations.

Two days ago the Italian contingent made another donation in favor of "Caritas Umbria - Mission in Kosovo". Shelving, furnishing material, outdoor stoves, computer equipment and electronic equipment, was delivered to a family home in the municipality of Klina where 12 children have lived for 30 years, in close contact with Italian volunteers.
