Italy – Kuwait: common commitment against terrorism

Between Italy and Kuwait there are consolidated relationships that can be further strengthened, also in light of the common commitment to protect stability and security in the Middle East area, where Kuwait occupies a central role.

This was also discussed during the institutional talks that Minister Pinotti held today.

During the meeting with the Emir of the State of Kuwait, Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Minister Pinotti expressed his recognition for the fundamental role of regional stabilization played by Kuwait, as well as for the role played in the struggle terrorism, and in particular al Daesh.

In this regard, the minister confirmed Italy's commitment to combating international terrorist phenomena, explaining that the Italian government has decided to increase its efforts to fully stabilize Middle Eastern areas.

Military cooperation between the two countries, and related international commitments and in the field of internal security, Libya, Syria, Iraq and Daesh, were also the focus of talks with the crown prince, Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the first deputy minister and foreign minister, Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, and deputy prime minister and minister of defense, Sheikh Khaled Al-Jarrah al-Sabah.

The talks will also focus on the evolution of bilateral relations between the two countries in the technical-industrial field, witnessed by the close and fruitful cooperation in the aerospace sector, which also includes training and training activities carried out in Italy with a view to supporting the constitution of autonomous capacity in Kuwait.

During his visit to Kuwait, the minister also attended the signing of the contract for the supply of 28 Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft made in Italy, between the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, Sheikh Khaled Al-Jarrah al-Sabah, and the CEO of Finmeccanica, Mauro Moretti.

The agreement is part of a broad and consolidated partnership between the Italian defense ministries and the Gulf country, capable of further strengthening the collaboration between the two nations and the other European countries that are members of the consortium (United Kingdom, Germany and Spain. ). The contract signed by Finmeccanica - responsible for the Kuwait commercial campaign within the Eurofighter consortium - is part of the previously signed intergovernmental agreement and also includes supplies in the sectors of logistics, operational support and training of flight crews and personnel of land, which will be carried out in collaboration with the Italian Air Force.
