The main road connecting the city of Mosul with the neighboring province of Duhok, in the Autonomous Region of Iraqi Kurdistan, was reopened after more than three years thanks to the work of the Iraqi Security Forces.
Now thousands of families will find themselves, after several years of separation, and the stabilization process can also develop on one of the main routes of northern Iraq.

Important contribution of the Italian military to the security of the area
The Italian military supported the Iraqi and Kurdish security forces in creating a security framework that allowed the reopening of the important thoroughfare.
This represents another important indicator of the improvement of the security situation in the area of the dam of Mosul and concretely depicts the important work done by the Italian military who have tangibly favored the normalization process.

The presence on the ground of our soldiers at the dam and the work done by the trainers, who have transferred to the Iraqi Army and Police forces and curves the operational capabilities necessary to defeat ISIS, have allowed the region to return to a situation of normalcy .

The road has been closed since the end of the 2014
The road remained inaccessible to transit through the Kurdish Defense Line, which marked the main defensive front by the forces of the so-called Islamic State.
For years, its closure had prevented relations between the two areas and, in many cases, had no longer allowed the families to maintain relations, also influencing the economy of the region.
