The Irish Prime Minister visits South Lebanon

The Irish prime minister, Enda Kenny, arrived this morning at the United Nations base of At-Tiri, where he was welcomed by division general Luciano Portolano, commander of the mission and UN forces in southern Lebanon.

Accompanied by Defense Minister Simon Coveney and Minister of State Paul Kehoe, the head of government received an informative update on the main aspects of the mission, focusing on the development of delicate regional balances.

The words of praise for the extraordinary work and the results achieved by the mission were significant. It is confirmed that it is possible to keep a calm and stable area per se which is very delicate but even more so because it is surrounded by hotbeds of great attention by crisis. of the international community.

Subsequently, the Prime Minister met the Irish blue helmets, employed within the UNIFIL mission, to offer them their best wishes on the upcoming holidays.

Ireland was one of the first contributing countries to the UNIFIL mission, founded in March of the 1978 with the UN Security Council 425 Resolution, with the original purpose of confirming the withdrawal of Israeli troops, restoring peace and assisting the Lebanese government in the restoration of the effective exercise of its authority in southern Lebanon.
