"The battle against ISIS is not a battle of Kurdistan or Iraq but a battle of the whole democratic world to preserve its freedom against those who watch it", these are the words of the Chief of Defense Staff, General Claudio Graziano , on a visit to the Italian military engaged in the training of the Peshmerga military in Erbil.

"Training the peshmerga - continued the head of SMD - is fundamental because as we have learned in all the peace and security missions, as in Lebanon and Afghanistan, it is through training and training of local forces that can be created stable institutions and therefore stable countries that can face threats to democracy. "

"The commitment of the Italian Armed Forces in the international coalition for the fight against Daesh is important both in Kuwait with the dislocation of aircraft for reconnaissance and surveillance as in Iraqi Kurdistan with the presence of trainers and in Baghdad with the instructors for the units of police engaged in the anti-ISIS fight ".

"We also employ special forces to train and prepare Iraqi special forces. This is all a symbol of a great commitment but also of a great experience of Italian military culture in peace and security operations.

Isis represents a complex threat that needs a global response and therefore still requires time and determination from international organizations and from Europe to work alongside the populations that are currently at risk of being the Kurds "

General Graziano finally concluded by underlining "the soldiers of the Iraqi army and the peshmerga in addition to defending their territories will gradually regain the territory already occupied by Isis, this involves both logistical support but also motivational support making them feel close to the presence and 'support of the democratic world.
