The works of the Defense Cooperation Initiative (DECI) chaired by the Chief of the Italian Defense Staff, General Claudio Graziano, have just finished in Salzburg, which was attended by the heads of the armed forces of Austria, Slovenia, Croatia, Hungary and Albania who entered to be part today of what General Graziano has defined the Deci Family.
The purpose of this initiative, born in 2012, is to develop multilateral cooperation, as well as strengthen bilateral cooperation, with the countries of the Adriatic basin and immediately adjacent areas in order to guarantee regional security. During today's meeting, the importance of the activities that could be developed within the initiative relating to the stabilization and reconstruction missions of the Security Force Assistance and Stability Policing activities was discussed at length.
"The strong instability coming from the southern periphery of the Euro-Mediterranean region (MENA) - underlined General Graziano in his initial speech - represents a threat to our security and requires a comprehensive regional approach based both on increased collaboration between NATO and the European Union and on adequate relations with partner and non-partner countries".
"In this context, DECI represents a privileged forum for discussing issues relating to security and defense and in which it is possible to exchange national points of view and projects that could be of interest to other members as well as to the international organizations of which the DECI countries make part". General Graziano concluded.
