The Italian contingent donates books and school materials to some schools

The "blue helmets" of the Italian contingent, in recent days, have distributed books of Italian and scholastic material, destined for initiatives of solidarity in favor of the local population, in some schools in South Lebanon.

In particular, Italian books were delivered to the high school of the municipality of Ayta Ash'Shab, an inland town within the Italian-led area of ​​responsibility, the texts were donated by ALMA EDIZIONI, the Italian publishing house that collaborated for the realization of the project For the occasion, the director of the school organized a ceremony presided by Brigadier General Stefano Del Col, commander of the UNIFIL and Italian contingent West Sector, and with the participation of the Embassy Defense Officer Italian in Lebanon, Brigadier General Pierluigi Monteduro, of the representative of the Lebanese Ministry of Education, mr. Hadi Zalzali, from other local civil and military local authorities and numerous students from the school. In his speech, the director of the institute illustrated the project of instruction that provides for the teaching of the Italian language as a compulsory second language, in numerous schools in Lebanon, and with the occasion wanted to emphasize the commitment of the Italian contingent, that besides being present on the territory in guaranteeing security and peace, it is constantly engaged in the social context in the realization of projects in various sectors in favor of the population. Students will also be involved in an international poetry competition and the translation of poetry books to increase their mediation in the study of the Italian language. Furthermore, the ITALBATT military maneuvering unit, based on the "Cavalleggeri Guide" (19 °) Regiment, delivered school kits, donated by the students of the Manzoni Institute of Molfetta to their Lebanese peers of the public school of Dayr Quanun. For the occasion, a videoconference was held which brought together Lebanese and Italian pupils and teachers for an intercultural comparison. The Civil and Military Cooperation of the Italian contingent, currently based on the "Pinerolo" Brigade, operates in full compliance with the tasks assigned by the 1701 resolution of the 2006 of the United Nations in order to guarantee assistance to the population and improve the living conditions and develop the local economy.
