05/11/14

The military of the Italian contingent of army, navy, aeronautics and carabinieri employed in the NATO multinational mission in Kosovo celebrated, in the presence of the division general Francesco Paolo Figliuolo, commander of the Kosovo Force (KFOR) and the Italian ambassador Andreas Ferrarese, the "National Unity Day" and "Armed Forces Day".

During the ceremony, which this year takes on particular importance for the concomitant anniversary of the centenary of the Great War, a laurel wreath was placed in memory of all the fallen who, as General Figliuolo recalled, have kept faith with the oath loaned with courage and deep sense of duty, to the extreme sacrifice.

General Figliuolo then stated: "it is precisely here, in Kosovo, as in all the other difficult scenarios where our soldiers operate today, the challenge we take up from our ancestors, the message to work together and in concert, strengthening the image of our country and of our armed forces, in the presence of the whole international community that pours out the highest expectations on us ”.

The Ferrarese ambassador, in underlining the excellent contribution provided by the Italian armed forces to NATO in this complex and strategic region, then added: “thanks to their professionalism, our soldiers represent the most appreciated institution in the world”. In the bases where the Italian soldiers are employed in Kosovo, as well as in Afghanistan and Lebanon, the film by director Ermanno Olmi on the Great War entitled “The meadows will return” was shown. The cinematographic work, promoted by the presidency of the council of ministers, was also presented in the evening, on the initiative of the Ferrarese ambassador, in a cinema in Pristina and saw the participation of the president of Kosovo Atifete Jahjaga, general Figliuolo and various local political authorities and representatives of the international community operating in the region.
