The Italian blue helmets of the UNIFIL mission have completed a project of Military Civil Cooperation (CIMIC), thanks to which a separate collection system was built within the archaeological areas of Tire.

The project was carried out with the support of local expert artisans and will continue in the coming months with the implementation of environmental and cultural initiatives aimed at improving the image and usability of those places, a UNESCO heritage site in 1984.

The activity of the Italian contingent received the appreciation of the local authorities who attended the inauguration, including the mayor, the president of the municipalities and the Qaemaqam (prefect) of Tire.

The areas concerned, dating back to the Roman and Byzantine periods between the second and sixth centuries. AD is the site of Al-Bass, including an extensive necropolis with hundreds of sarcophagi and tomb complexes, a triumphal arch, an aqueduct and the second largest and best preserved racecourse in the world, and Tiro Città, where mosaics can be admired and marble-paved streets, colonnades, public baths, an entire residential neighborhood, a unique rectangular arena.
