The carabinieri of the Italian contingent of UNIFIL, have completed a course in favor of the Lebanese Internal Security Forces (ISF) for the improvement of the police techniques to be used in the controls and in the interventions in inhabited centers in presence of civil population.
The course is divided into several phases, with Italian carabinieri acting as instructors to the local police with theoretical and practical lessons held in the bases of Tire.
An activity that for almost 2 months saw Lebanese policemen train in the prevention and control of city streets, but also perfect the techniques used in the interventions of immobilization and arrest of hostile people.
The limitation of the use of firearms in urban centers and the use of non-lethal self-defense aids were the key aspects of the last phase of the course which ended with the delivery of the certificates to the 2 ° command ISF mobile regiment.
A collaboration that has garnered the great appreciation of the local authorities for the work done by the Italian blue helmets and which confirms the profound proximity of the national contingent to the Lebanese institutions, contributing substantially to the support of the Lebanese armed forces as required by UN resolution 1701.
The carabinieri contribute to the cooperation activities between UNIFIL and the Lebanese Internal Security Force (ISF), carrying out in addition to advanced courses for local police forces, also joint patrols in the major urban centers of the south.
