The "Female Body Searching" course in favor of 2 agents of the Afghan Uniform Police (AUP) and the Afghan Border Police (ABP), wanted by the Herat police leaders to train, ended after about 10 weeks of theoretical and practical activities. and to enable female personnel in the techniques of standing and ground searches, self-defense, disarmament and the use of short weapons within civilian infrastructures.
The course held at Camp Arena, the Italian base where the Train Advise Assist Command West (TAAC-W) currently on an alpine brigade basis Taurinense, was developed as part of the training program conducted by the carabinieri from Police Advising Team (PAT) with the help of female personnel from the Italian contingent; the theoretical and practical lessons touched on general aspects of both self-defense and disarmament and prevention during checks in large events and crowded places, an aspect considered by local authorities to be very important especially following the bloody attack on 1 August in Herat in the Jawadia mosque in Dehr Hebad in which many civilians lost their lives.
The goal was to instruct a first group of agents continuing in the future with further courses in order to train in the medium term most of the police officers of the Herat commands engaged daily in checks and prevention at government buildings and during religious celebrations. , areas in which the risk of accidents or terrorist attacks increases.
Activities in favor of Afghan women, carried out in the framework of projects gender, are developed in all training (Train) and consulting (Advise and Assist) plans, which are currently carried out by TAAC West advisors in favor of the Afghan security forces (ANDSF). They have the dual objective of making ANDSF autonomous in the management of the professional development of their staff, to train new trainers ("train the trainers"), and train "specialists", through targeted courses, seminars and symposia.
A central point of the work of the Italian contingent concerns precisely the assistance and commitment in every sphere, institutional and civil, to promote the figure of women in respect of local traditions and culture, initially favoring female recruitment and the creation of gender offices. in many institutional bodies and subsequently taking care of their professionalization with ad hoc courses.
