Grenadiers in command of the Italian contingent in Lebanon

The transfer of responsibility of the command of the Italian contingent that operates within the UNIFIL mission (United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon), the United Nations interposition force in southern Lebanon, took place yesterday.   

The command of the operation "Leonte" passes to the "Granatieri di Sardegna" brigade, which took over this night from the "Pozzuolo del Friuli" brigade.

The TOA (Transfer of Authority) ceremony took place at the "Millevoi" in Shama in the presence of the commander of the COI (Operational Command of Summit Interforces), team admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone, the commander of the UNIFIL mission, the general of Irish army Michael Beary, as well as numerous political and local authorities in South Lebanon.

During the ceremony, General Michael Beary thanked the staff of the "Pozzuolo del Friuli" brigade for the valuable contribution they have made in these six months and for the important role they have played in the activities of the United Nations Resolution No. 1701 . 

The "Granatieri di Sardegna" brigade, the oldest in the Italian Army, has already conducted the operation in the land of the cedars in 2014 with "Leonte XV", noting, as then, the command of the Joint Task Force from the cavalry brigade " Pozzuolo del Friuli "which in six months, among other things carried out more than 37.500 day and night operating activities, 4 thousand joint operational activities with the Lebanese armed forces and completed 58 civil and military cooperation projects.

The "Granatieri di Sardegna" brigade, based in Roma Capitale with the eponymous 1 regiment and the "Lancieri di Montebello" regiment (8 °) employed, in addition to being used in national and international operations, with the its centuries-old history is the Great Unit of the Italian Army charged with carrying out the activities of garrison, high representation and state ceremonies at the institutional offices.
