The Italian Civil and Military Cooperation (CIMIC) of the Train Advise Assist Command West (TAAC-W), based on the Alpine Brigade Taurinense, organized and conducted the delivery of educational, sports and recreational materials, donated by the NGO "Ampio Raggio" of Boscoreale (Naples) whose president participated in the ceremony, as a graduate of the logistics regiment Taurinense. The activity developed within the project "Italy-Afghanistan Solidarity Bridge", sponsored by the Regional Council of Campania and the Bonifaciana Academy, in collaboration with the "Voluntary Service Center" of Naples and the National Association of Autieri d Italy, in synergy with institutions, institutions, civil protection groups and associations.
The recipients of the donation, worth around 8.000 euros, were identified by the Alpine troops of the Train, Advise and Assist Command West of Taurinense - thanks to direct knowledge on the ground of the needs and needs of the population - in the Female Section from the Herat prison and the “PIR Herat Charity” Foundation, which deals with assistance to disabled people of all ages, in a country where support for people in difficulty is still very limited.
In the women's prison of Herat are in fact also housed the children of the inmates and they were given didactic materials and a toy library with games and furnishings for children between 1 and 6 years. The "PIR Herat Charity" foundation received baskets, numerous balls and basketball sets for the wheelchair basketball team, which participates in competitions in Afghanistan and abroad in the rehabilitation process.
During the donation, chaired by the commander of the TAAC West General Massimo Biagini, the director of the women's prison, Colonel Sima Pazhman, thanked the Italian contingent for the support provided to the "Ampio Raggio" Association, whose donation will allow small children of inmates living together with mothers in a more serene environment. The words of the president of the Herat Charity Foundation, mr. Abdul Ali Barakzai, who confirmed how he considers his Center as "a piece of Italy, thanks to the continued support received over the years by soldiers and the Italian people. You are our friends and you will always be our friends ”.
Support to the population is one of the activities that accompanies the main training and assistance to the Afghan Security Forces, the primary focus of the mission Resolute Support and, thanks to the contribution of the operators of the Multinational CIMIC Group - the multinational and inter-force unit of the Army specializing in civil-military cooperation - is implemented both directly with projects identified and conducted by the national contingent, and facilitating the distribution of aid humanitarians from national charities.
