EUABG is an Italian-led force and specifically a lead Navy as it has held command of the SIAF (Spanish Italian Amphibious Force) since last July 2019, offered in readiness for the second half of 2020.

In the event of a political decision to activate for an operation, the Battle Group (BG) is able to intervene within 6000 km from Brussels, on coastal countries, reaching the operating theater within a period of time between 5 and 10 days from order of operation.

The missions that can be assigned to the BG are different: Conflict Prevention (CP), Evacuation Operations (NEO), Assistance to Humanitarian Operations (HA), Competition in Stabilization and Reconstruction (SR) operations and Separation of contenders (SOPF).

"We are ready to intervene in case of activation" declared the designated commander of the European Union Amphibious Battle Group (EUABG), Rear Admiral Alberto Sodomaco, during the official presentation of the package of forces to the European Union.

Admiral Sodomaco, commander of the third naval division, is currently on board a ship Durand de La Penne as commander of the operation Safe Sea.

The presentation was made by videoconference on the morning of June 17th, at Political and Security Committee chaired by the Chair Ms Sofie From-Emmesberger and, in the afternoon, by the Militaree Committee, chaired by General Claudio Graziano.
