Exercise for the Multinational Battle Group West (MNBG-W) to protect the Decane monastery

Intense training carried out in recent days ended with an articulated exercise that took place in the presence of the chief of staff of the Joint Force Command (JFC) of the Hungarian armed forces, major general Zoltán Mihócza, on the execution of crowd control procedures and public order management in the event of disorder or concentration of hostile masses near a protected site such as the Monastery of decane.

The multinational maneuvering battalion, based on the 3rd mountain artillery regiment of the "Julia" alpine brigade, has deployed a battalion command post and maneuvering units composed of Italian, Slovenian and Austrian soldiers in the training area of ​​Camp "Villaggio Italia" and Moldovans reinforced by a Hungarian company of the KFOR tactical reserve battalion.

The objective of the exercise was to test the rapid reaction capability of the MNBG-W forces, the first responsible (first responder). of the response to a situation of progressive escalation of violence caused by the approach of a hostile crowd near a particularly sensitive area such as that of the Monastery of Decane.

In the continuation of the exercise, the anti-riot maneuvering units applied the technical-tactical procedures aimed at controlling the demonstration and rejected the accumulation of a hostile crowd intending to go beyond the perimeter of the protected complex.

The exercise represents an important training occasion aimed at maintaining a complete operational capacity and consolidating the standardization of technical-tactical procedures, as well as being part of the activities authorized by the UN Security Council 1244 resolution which provides for to guarantee the security of the Decane Monastery, to maintain freedom of movement and to prevent recourse to violence and to develop projects of Civil and Military Cooperation aimed at supporting the process of economic growth thanks to the development of local institutions.
