Erbil (Iraq): Italian soldiers and helicopters replace US colleagues in the Personnel Recovery service

In recent days the Italian military personnel that make up the structure of Personnel Recovery (PR), located at the Erbil base in Iraqi Kurdistan, received the go-ahead from the CAOC (Combined Air Operation Center) to become part of the recovery system for isolated personnel belonging to the mission Ineherent Resolve in Iraq.

The validation took place following a period of evaluation and verification of the tactical operational requirements by the CAOC staff who, through multiple day and night practical tests and setting up different operational scenarios, was able to test every component of the PR structure Italian promoting it with flying colors.

The structure of Personnel Recovery provided by Italy to the anti-Daesh coalition, it is the only non-US PR structure operating in Iraq and will have as its area of ​​responsibility Kurdistan, that is northern Iraq, an area currently of strategic importance for the Iraqi military operations launched for the liberation of Mosul.

The PR service is carried out by specialized personnel of the 66 ° infantry regiment Trieste and helicopters with crews from the 5 regiment "RIGEL" and 7 regiment "VEGA" which will be called upon to recover isolated military and civilian personnel belonging to the coalition.

It represents a precise and highly specialized tool available to the Combined Joint Land Component Command of Baghdad committed to supporting the Iraqi security forces and the Italian armed forces represents a success in terms of integration with other armies belonging to the coalition.
