The operational activity of ComGrupNavCost 10 in Sinai (Egypt), thanks to the constant commitment of the 78 soldiers of the Italian contingent and the work carried out by the so-called “Ships of the Desert” patrolling the Straits of Tiran, between the Egyptian and Saudi coasts.

The three patrollers, Nave Relay, Ship Sentinel of the Ship look-out, constitute the Coastal Patrol Unit (CPU) and operate in rotation in the waters south of the Sinai Peninsula, fulfilling the mission of the Multinational Force and Observers for the control and compliance with the Camp David Peace Treaty, signed between Israel and Egypt in 1978.

Due to the pandemic in progress, the MFO has temporarily suspended - following a request from the Egyptian and Israeli authorities - the land activity of the COU (Civilian Observer Units - Civilian Observers of the American State Department) which, traveling along the entire peninsula of Sinai, inspect military sites along the peninsula verifying compliance with the provisions of the Camp David pacts.

In the absence of the land movements of the UOC, the MFO mission (Observation, Verification and Reporting) is carried out only by the two operational components still active, namely the air one, with aircraft from the United States and the Czech Republic and the naval one, based on the Tenth Coastal Naval Group of the Italian Navy.
