The frigate Euro, involved in the European Union's anti-piracy mission called "Atalanta", arrived this morning in the Iranian port of Bandar Abbas, where it will make a stop from 24 to September 27, before returning to Italy.

The Iranian park ofEuro confirms the mutual desire to resume the cooperation historically held between the respective Defenses interrupted for many years and fits into the broader context of the recovery of the historians and excellent relations between the two Marinas.

The last visits of naval units of the Navy that stopped in Iran (Bander Abbas) were: the frigate Euro (April 1999) and the frigate Bersagliere (April 2001).

The frigate Euro, built in the Cantieri Navali del Tirreno of Riva Trigoso, is the sixth of the eight frigates class Mistral in service in the Navy named after the winds that blow on the Mediterranean Sea. Euro is a wind that blows at dawn from the east, is relatively moderate and moves from the African coasts to the point of licking the Ionian coasts, bringing warm air with it. Launched the 25 April 1983, its port of assignment is Taranto and is employed by the command of the second naval division (COMDINAV TWO).

Designed with specific predispositions for the contrast of the submarines, ship Euro it has also shown considerable flexibility of use and has proven over the years capable of effectively fulfilling a wide variety of missions. The unit is able to perform the following tasks:

- defense of convoys and other military units from air, naval and submarine threats;
- control and interdiction of maritime traffic areas and lines;
- attacks against surface units and coastal targets in support of amphibious operations;
- contrast to piracy and illegal trafficking;
- evacuation of non-combatant personnel from conflict zones;
- search and rescue of boats and staff in difficulty;
- provide Command and Control capacity by boarding a Staff (national / multinational) that operates independently in a dedicated Staff area;
- perform the first aid and stabilization injured thanks to an equipped hospital area.

Ship Euro it is not only a means to develop capacity projection from the sea, but it is also a multi-purpose unit, with wider and more diversified potential and with significant dual-use capabilities, which can be used, for example, also in humanitarian and support missions to civil protection. In fact, like all national military ships, it is a protected and completely self-sufficient place, able to risk itself with minimal warning anywhere, in the world, where there is need for intervention.
