The Italian local police training mission, called MIADIT Somalia 6, officially started in Djibouti at the Italian Military Support Base (BMIS). After the arrival in the operating theater of an advanced nucleus (advance party) at the end of August, the 12 September came the rest of the quota (main body) of the Carabinieri, composed of 53 soldiers under the command of Colonel Marco Di Stefano.
The training activity is currently carried out in favor of 210 officers and agents of the Somali police, about 150 units of the Gibutine national police and 150 gibutine national gendarmerie unit; the training course, structured on 12 weeks, includes training modules for the basic training of Somali police officers, special forces and the mobile organization of the Somali police and police forces of the Republic of Djibouti (National Police e National Gendarmerie), for the management of the crime scene and for investigations into crimes against the environment.
The Miadit, the result of bilateral agreements with Somalia and the Republic of Djibouti, tends to provide a contribution to the Somali and Gibraltan authorities mainly in the area of security and territorial control, with the aim of promoting a systemic approach in the Horn of Africa, becoming part of "capacity building" initiatives and contributing to the stabilization of Somalia and the consolidation of the Republic of Djibouti by increasing the operational capabilities of the respective police forces.
The Arma dei Carabinieri, which abroad has already successfully conducted numerous training, assistance and tutoring activities in favor of local police forces in various operating theaters around the world, renews its commitment in this delicate African area, contributing decisively to increase the presence and national influence in the area, both bilaterally and internationally.
