"Confidence Building" for the Afghan staff of Herat airport

In recent days at Camp Arena, home of the Italian-led TAAC W (Train Advise Assist Command West), the agreement was signed for the launch of the "Confidence Building".

This is a program of meetings and theoretical-practical lessons, which will focus on the main airport activities (in particular Fire Service, Air Traffic Control, Weather, Flight Safety and Radio-Assisted Maintenance for Air Navigation), on the familiarization of emergency procedures and on the management of routine activities that are performed at an airport hub.

The protocol of the activities, which will start today and last about two months, was signed by the commander of the TAAC W Brigade General Michele Risi, the commander of the JATF (Joint Air Task Force), Colonel Raffaele La Montagna and the director of the 'Herat Airport, mr. Shakhi Dad Rasooly.

The "Confidence Building" will allow the Afghan personnel on duty at the Herat civil airport (HAB) to acquire the knowledge and obtain the certifications from the Authority for Civil Aviation of Afghanistan (ACAA) in order to assume the management of the functions airport.

The essential airport functions at the moment are carried out by the military of the Joint Air Task Force, who are also responsible for maintaining the airport's operational capacity, in compliance with the national and international support needs of the Resolute Support mission. In this phase JATF will make available to Afghan personnel its qualified expertise to share knowledge and skills in airport services of specific interest.
