The training of a Malian cavalry squadron is concluded

The 18 last September the Italian instructors of the Light Armored Training Team (LATT) of theEuropean Union Training Mission (EUTM) Mali completed a training cycle in favor of a cavalry squadron of the Inter Arma Tactical Group (GTIA) of the Malian armed force.

Activities developed at the Koulikoro Training Camp located inside theÉcole Militaire Inter Armes of Koulikoro starting from the team base level, to then pass to the platoon and reach the entire squadron.

Currently the military of the regiment "Savoia Cavalleria" (3 °) of Grosseto and of the 31 wagon regiment of Lecce are employed. Several teaching subjects: from those proper to the cavalry weapon focused on concepts and methods for the conduct of exploration, up to the contrast of the threat of improvised explosive devices (C-IED). Particular attention was then given to the escorting procedures for convoys, and to the rules of first aid on the battlefield, exploiting the capacities of the military rescuers of the LATT, on an Italian basis, and of an expert of the sector, effective to the Slovenian component. Furthermore, practical demonstrations of international humanitarian law were held with the collaboration of European teachers specialized in the field.

The squadron's exercises in dynamic firefighted activities at the Tanabogou shooting range officially sanctioned the end of the retraining of Malian units. The GTIA "DEBO" will soon be used in territorial control operations in the northern area of ​​the country.

Italy participates, together with other 21 nations, in the capacity building mission EUTM - Mali, aimed at forming credible and stable institutions and trained units capable of countering the terrorism present in that area.
