Ceremony for the 98 ° Remembrance Day

Last Friday, the commemoration ceremony for the 98th anniversary of the Coalition at Al Minhad Air Base (AMAB) took place at the Remembrance Day, the day chosen from the end of the First World War to remember all members of the Armed Forces of the Commonwealth Nations who fell during the four years of bloody battles on the western front.

In a climate of heartfelt participation the ceremony began with the flag-raising of the Nations present at AMAB (Australia, England, Italy, New Zealand, Holland and USA) and then continued with the deposition of a crown in honor of the fallen of all wars and armed conflicts also by the commander of the Task Force Air Al Minhad, col. pil. Leonardo Barone. In this solemn celebration the thought of the Italian soldiers went above all to the 13 airmen of the 46a aerial brigade of Pisa who fell the 11 November 1961 in an ambush during an UN mission in Kindu, Congo.

The commemoration of 11 November was an opportunity for the Italian contingent to also celebrate the Day of Remembrance of the military and civilian fallen in international missions, which is honored in Italy the day after in memory of what happened 13 years ago, when a truck bomb devastated the Italian military base of Nassiriya, killing 17 soldiers and 2 tricolor civilians.

The Italian contingent component of the Task Force Air - Al Minhad guarantees the inflow of personnel, resources and materials to the national contingents in the Operational Theaters (Afghanistan, Kuwait, Iraq and Somalia), ensuring the efficiency of the aircraft and the technical means used for transportation, guaranteeing communication with the country and the contingents deployed in Operation areas. Furthermore, it ensures the health activity through theAeromedical Staging Unit, providing medical treatment in the case of MEDEVAC / STRATEVAC to staff from the various operating theaters.
