Two major redevelopment, upgrading and energy efficiency projects for public lighting systems in southern Lebanon have been completed and inaugurated by the military of the Italian UNIFIL contingent.
The projects, entirely financed with national funds and carried out by the military-civilian cooperation, involved a stretch of the peripheral road of the village of Ayta Az Jabal and the northern part of the waterfront of the city of Tire.
The redevelopment interventions concerned the replacement of obsolete lighting fixtures, damaged poles and the installation of photovoltaic panel systems according to the regulations in force on renewable energy.
The 49 light points installed, being powered by solar energy, allow a drastic reduction of carbon dioxide emissions to the benefit of the surrounding environment and the usability of spaces by citizens in terms of livability, accessibility and safety.
The inauguration ceremonies were held in the presence of the commander of the Sector West and of the highest institutional offices of the Tiro and Bint Jbeil districts who thanked the Italian contingent for their constant commitment to improving the quality of life of the local population.
Assistance to the Lebanese population, together with the monitoring of the cessation of hostilities and support for the local armed forces, is one of the tasks assigned to the Italian contingent of UNIFIL in compliance with the 1701 resolution of the UN Security Council.
