The students of Djibouti already have solid bases of knowledge: among them there are in fact two biologists, a chemist, a chemical engineer and a medical examiner already in service at the local Scientific Police office.
The Carabinieri instructors are specialists in the sector, coming from the RIS (Scientific Investigation Department) of Rome and from the Territorial Departments of the Arma.
The mission was born in 2013 on the basis of bilateral agreements, and is led by Colonel Paolo Pelosi, who has reached his second term.
The intensive course lasts 6 weeks, and includes theoretical lessons in ballistics, chemistry, biology, fingerprinting, photography but also more complex subjects such as BPA (Bloodstain Pattern Analysis).
All this is completed with practical exercises on simulated scenes of always different crimes such as murders, terrorist attacks, illicit trafficking: the students, assisted by the Carabinieri instructors, will have to identify and collect every single trace, even those not visible to the naked eye, draw up reports for the Judicial Authority, draw up the relative photographic file and, finally, resolve the case with the sole help of scientific evidence.
During the training will be used high-profile materials and technical instruments, made to arrive specifically from Italy and not yet in use to the local police.
