In August, the military serving in the Italian Military Support Base (BMIS), concluded a CIMIC (Civil Military Cooperation) project for the donation of foodstuffs, in favor of various institutions and organizations operating in the social sector of the city of Djibouti, such as the Notre Dame de Boulaos School, the La Salle School, the Franciscan School and the Caritas Center in Djibouti; institutions operating within the "Street Children" program, assisting orphaned or indigent minors.
Among the beneficiaries of the donation there is also the National Orphanage of Daryel, the only national institute connected with local hospitals that takes care of abandoned children.

The activity met with the appreciation of Msgr. Giorgio Bertin, bishop of the dioceses of Djibouti and Somalia and in charge of the homonymous Caritas, and of the first lady of Djibouti, Madame Kadra Mahamoud Haid, under whose patronage the Daryel National Orphanage operates.

The Italian Military Support Base in Djibouti, with an inter-force connotation, has about 80 soldiers that make up the permanent core of the mission. The Base provides support to national contingents operating in the Horn of Africa and the Indian Ocean area.
