Vessel "Federico Martinengo" has replaced, in recent days, Vessel "Virginio Fasan" as part of the national maritime surveillance activity in the Red Sea near the Strait of Bab-el Mandeb.

At the end of December Ship Fasan, already engaged in the operation Safe Mediterranean after the Israeli-Palestinian crisis, it was repositioned in the Red Sea, at the disposal of the Minister of Defense Guido Crosetto.

The naval unit was deployed in the area to ensure maritime surveillance, guarantee the freedom of trade routes to protect merchant units following attacks by the Houthi militiamen against traffic sailing in the Strait of Bab-el Mandeb, a crucial route of maritime communication for access to the Mediterranean Sea.
