Today two units of the Navy took turns in the activities of the "Brilliant Shield" operation: the frigate Marceglia took over from the destroyer Duilio in the air-naval device deployed in the Baltic Sea, in order to provide its contribution through presence and surveillance for international security and in particular for the protection of some critical infrastructures on Polish territory.

Departed on 15th July from the Military Maritime Arsenal of La Spezia and crossed the Strait of Gibraltar, Vessel Antonio Marceglia, the most modern of the multi-purpose frigates of the class Bergamini, entered the Atlantic Ocean heading towards the Kiel Canal, in Germany, where it reached Nave Caio Duilio to continue patrolling the waters of the Baltic Sea ensuring the air defense of some sensitive energy infrastructures. The intense activity conducted in the Baltic by the destroyer Duilio, in operations since last May, was sealed by the overcoming of the Readiness Verification conducted by Allied Air Command (AIRCOM), which allowed the Duilio to integrate into NATO's air and missile defense architecture, thus becoming the first naval unit of the Alliance to achieve this ambitious goal.

From July 26 Ship Marceglia, on the strength of the peculiar air, surface and underwater surveillance capabilities of its sensors, integrated by those of the SH-90A helicopter on board, will actively contribute to maintaining a security framework and international stability, once again demonstrating the effective capabilities that can be expressed by the Navy in the so-called "Enlarged Mediterranean".
