A training area in which Afghan security forces will be able to practice acquiring and perfecting theoretical and practical knowledge to combat the threat of improvised explosive devices.

It is what the military of the Italian contingent in Afghanistan have made to "Camp Zafar", the base of the 207 army corps of the Afghan army, responsible for security in the western part of the country.

The inauguration ceremony included General Manlio Scopigno, commander of the Italian contingent in Afghanistan, and General Taj Mohammad Jahed, commander of the 207 Army Corps.

The training area includes a modern multimedia classroom in which the Afghan military will carry out theoretical lessons aimed at acquiring the knowledge necessary to operate safely in a context characterized by the threat of improvised explosive devices.

The practical activities will instead be carried out in the "C-IED Training Strip" (Counter Improvised Explosive Device), an area specially set up for the identification and recognition of the various types of bombs and for first aid and evacuation of possible injured .

The project is part of the initiatives promoted by the Italian contingent for the development of military capabilities and the acquisition of full autonomy of the Afghan security forces (ANSF), a process that will be completed by the end of the 2014.
