The staff of the 46 ^ Air Brigade of Pisa, deployed in Herat as part of the "Albatros" Task Group and close to returning home due to the termination of their employment in Afghanistan, lowered their banner during a brief ceremony presided by the commander of the Train Advise Assist Command West (TAAC-W), Brigadier General Michele Risi.

Also present at the event was the commander of the Joint Air Task Force (JATF), Colonel Paolo Latini.

The Albatros was the first and last JATF Flight Group, confirming the motto "First in, last out". In fact, the C130J aircraft of the 46 ^ Air Brigade, of which the Task Group has made use, has begun its operation in the Afghan skies in the 2007, revealing itself over the years as an essential air structure for the versatility of use and the ability to transport the personnel, materials and vehicles in any area of the Afghan territory and in any weather condition.

The set-up ensured the turnover of about 196 crews, guaranteeing the carrying out of more than 1.800 missions, carrying out more than 6.000 sorties for a total of about 8.000 flight hours. In addition, more than 100.000 passengers were transported and more than a thousand "cargoes" were launched, both in favor of the troops deployed in the various FOB (Forward Operation Base) scattered in peripheral areas of the Afghan territory, and in favor of the local population, for a weight total of about 20.000 tons.

The commander of the JATF, in his farewell greeting, underlined that "Today's event represents an important page in the history of JATF and consequently of the Italian Air Force, as a provider of assets that, with their effectiveness, have well integrated in the joint and multinational context and whose excellent results are tangible and recognized ".
