Afghanistan: official visit of Minister Elisabetta Trenta

"Our country will never fail to support Afghanistan with respect to its commitments to our allies and to the Afghan people. Our goal remains to continue to provide support to enable the country to stabilize and create the basic conditions for the development, welfare and security of the Afghan people."

This is the message that Defense Minister Elisabetta Trenta brought to the Afghan political authorities and to the military leaders of the mission Resolute Support, during the first official visit to the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, which took place last week in the towns of Herat and Kabul.

Upon her arrival in Herat, the head of the department was greeted by US Army General Austin Scott Miller, commander of the mission Resolute Support, by the deputy commander, general Salvatore Camporeale and by the brigadier general Francesco Bruno, commander of the Train Advise and Assist Command West. During his visit to Kabul he met the President of the Republic Ashraf Ghani, Prime Minister Abdullah Abdullah and the Afghan Defense Minister General Tariq Shah Bahrami. He assured his interlocutors that the reshaping of our contingent in progress will not affect the training and training activities in favor of the Afghan Armed and Security Forces.

The presence of Minister Trenta in Afghanistan was a precious opportunity to greet all the soldiers employed in the mission, both those who work in Kabul at the headquarters of the Resolute Support, both those within the Train Advise and Assist Command West (TAAC-W), carry out training, assistance and consultancy activities for the local Institutions and Security Forces concentrated in the West Region.

"The Government, the Armed Forces and the country are in solidarity with you, appreciate the quality of your extraordinary commitment, your dignity, your humanity. All Italians are justifiably proud of you. And I'm the first one!"

This is the message he addressed to the men and women of the Italian Armed Forces present in Afghanistan.

On Saturday morning, Minister Trenta also took part in the changeover ceremony of the Train Advise and Assist Command West, which marked the handover between gen. b. Francesco Bruno and gen. b. Salvatore Annigliato. General Bruno and the personnel assigned to the "Pinerolo" mechanized brigade leave Afghanistan after months of intense activity. They are replaced by General Annigliato and the personnel of the "Friuli" aircraft brigade.

"Best wishes to all of you. Be strong, steady, courageous and remember the values ​​expressed by the Constitution, placed at the helm of all our military action and our presence in arms outside the borders of Italy. The awareness of being an integral part of a fundamental mission for peace will support you in dealing with daily difficulties and dangers."

This is the message of good wishes for the upcoming holidays that the minister addressed to all the soldiers of the Italian contingent of Resolute Support.
