An important meeting between Afghan political and military leaders and the mission commander took place yesterday at Camp Arena Resolute Support (RS), attended by the Afghan Defense Minister mr. Abdullah Khan Habibi, the commander of the General RS (USA) John William Nicholson, and the commanders of the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF) of the province of Herat.

The authorities, arriving at Herat Airport, were welcomed by the commander of the Train Advise Assist Command West (TAACW), Brigadier General Gianpaolo Mirra.

During the meeting the current security situation was analyzed in depth, in relation to the presence of criminal factions and terrorist cells rooted in various areas and how the various security forces are working to stabilize the territory.

The Afghan Defense Minister thanked General Nicholson for the advice and support provided to the Afghan Security Forces, which have reached a high level of professionalism and autonomy. The minister also underlined the generous sharing of experiences, mutual respect and the climate of partnership established between the RS contingents and the local security forces.

It was also highlighted that the West Region of Afghanistan, and the province of Herat in particular, is currently one of the areas of the country with the best economic and cultural prospects and this is also due to the good existing security conditions achieved thanks to the excellent cooperation established between the Afghan military and civilian institutions and the Italian-led coalition forces. Precisely the training and consultancy activities carried out by TAAC W towards the Afghan Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF), have made it possible to considerably improve their capacity for coordinated management of territorial security and to carry out activities in full autonomy to combat the insurgents and common delinquency.
