"A women's football match is already a nice goal for Afghan women! Sport has always united people but today its function as a social accelerator for a noble cause, which fights a wound that is still too often present, has fully manifested itself ”. With these words the 1 ° caporal major Elisabetta Martina, captain of the Italian team, commented on the unusual women's football match between the girls of the Italian military contingent and the women's team of Bastan Football Club.

The game is part of the event "A match for Women Rights - Afghanistan and Italy, together we win", held today at Camp Arena in Herat, home of the Italian military contingent in Afghanistan, and organized by civil and military cooperation (CIMIC).

The captain of the Afghan team, winner of the meeting, stressed that "today our team has not won, Afghanistan has won. Organizing a match between women was unthinkable a few years ago, so thanks to the Italian military contingent, we can say that we have realized a dream ".

Satisfaction expressed also by the general commander of Train Advise Assist Command West (TAACW) and commander of the Italian military contingent, Mauro D'Ubaldi - "we want to encourage everyone to make this important choice: to convince them to educate their children not to commit violence against women, nor justify or remain silent in the face of these deeds ".

At least a hundred enthusiastic supporters set the tone for an important event, in its simplicity.
The Italians in Herat are engaged in assistance and in theadvising of security forces and institutions, but also to foster the development of a culture based on respect for civil rights, women and young people.
